Gentle hills, lush greenery, mighty chestnut trees, a wide sky: "Blaufränkischland" - the geography and Pannonian climate make Central Burgenland a picture-book landscape for red wine winemakers. The Kirnbauer family winery is enthroned above the rooftops of Deutschkreutz and offers outstanding views of the vineyards. Walter Kirnbauer was ahead of his time when he became one of the first winegrowers in Austria to produce a cuvée in 1987. Today, "The Phantom" from the Blaufränkisch region is one of Austria's best-known red wines with its deep, dark sour cherry and cassis fruit and complex structure. Well-known rarities from the estate include the "Girmer", a Zweigelt from 50-year-old vines with barrique ageing from the estate's own forest holdings, and the Blaufränkisch "Goldberg Reserve". The "boutique wine" from K+K Kirnbauer, however, is "Forever" - Cabernet and Merlot aged in barriques for 36 months. The Chardonnay Barrique "Zwickl" (unfiltered!) and the ice wine, also fermented and matured in barriques, enjoy a high international reputation. The Kirnbauer family attaches great importance to teamwork and inter-company cooperation. As early as the late 1980s, Walter Kirnbauer worked on the realization of the Deutschkreutzer Gebietsvinothek, in 1994 Markus Kirnbauer initiated the association "Vitikult", and since 2009 Walter Kirnbauer has been president of the "Mittelburgenland DAC".
