The red wine Südtirol Lagrein Riserva DOC, vintage 2012 from the winery Ansitz Waldgries has been rated in 2015 with 94 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Lagrein from the region Alto Adige in Italy.
Rich, almost impenetrable ruby-purple in colour. A wonderfully rich and definite nose of blackberries and elderberries, coupled with notes of cocoa and dark pepper. Compact and dense on the palate, it opens with vivid berry fruit then lots of dense tannin. There's some shows savoury, earthy notes here too. The overall impression is very long, authentic yet polished.
