Tasting Notes
Medium yellow-green, silver reflections, lively mousseux. Ripe yellow pome fruit nuances underlaid with subtle herbal spice, a hint of honey, mineral nuances. Medium body, subtle fruit sweetness, fresh acidity, delicate hints of pineapple and peach, some blossom honey on the finish.
More about the tastingThe grapes for the Taittinger base cuvée come from 35 different crus; the blend consists of 30% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier, plus 40% Chardonnay. The current release consists of 80% base wines from the 2011 vintage, with the remainder of the cuvée coming from the 2010 and 2009 vintages. After bottle fermentation, the wines remain sur latte—that is, on the lees—for three to four years to harmonize perfectly. The nose is dominated by berry-like, almost “sweet”-seeming Pinot aromas; on the palate, the champagne is juicy with rather restrained acidity, medium-bodied in extract with a delicate effervescence. An accessible style, executed with technical excellence.
