The white wine Westhofen Steingrube Chardonnay, vintage 2023 from the winery Weingut Wittmann has been rated in 2025 by Ulrich Sautter with 93+ Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Chardonnay from the region Rhine Hesse in Germany.
No fruit grows in the "Steingrube". This is certainly suggested by the nose, which is completely devoid of primary fruit, lightly mineral with notes of aniseed and caraway. Barely noticeable wood, very fine and almost lively. On the palate, the fruit does make its presence felt. Very juicy, with pear, and crisp apple, elegantly supported, and rounded out by the ageing, but not aromatically overpowering. More airy than robust - not to be underestimated!.
