"Fish & Seafood" Street Food Restaurants in Västra Götalands län
Fish ‘n’ chips, moules frites, and fish burger: Childhood friends Oliver Bull and Adam Axelsson present maritime classics as “fast food from the sea,” served in a cool, tiled space. They started with a food truck in the archipelago and now run several locations in Gothenburg and one in Stockholm.
Fjällbacka's fish shop added this pier-side bar in 2021, and both are open year-round. Just like the supply of seafood, the selection varies from day to day: There are fish and chips, fish soup, shrimp sandwich, a shellfish box, even oysters when available. Outdoor tables offer an archipelago view.
Andreas Olsson Wijk grew up smoking fish in his grandfather’s garden on Vrångö, where his family has fished for many generations. Out of this tradition grew Fiskeboa: a smokehouse that became two fish shops, on Vrångö and neighbouring Donsö, stocked with the catch of the day and homemade delicacies.
Patrik Jansson and his wife Sofia took over from his father Gösta in 2019, becoming the fourth generation of fish traders. Their counter on Smögenbryggan also serves ready-made dishes such as shrimp sandwiches and fish and chips. The catch comes from Sweden's only quayside fish auction next door.
What began as a fish shop grew into a restaurant where the kitchen creates its daily menu around the morning catch. Lunch brings one fish and one meat dish, while shellfish platters and moules frites are paired with wine for dinner. The outdoor tables overlook ferries going to Sydkoster and Öddö.
Martina Järlbring and Ida Landström took over this fish counter in 2023 and have since developed its weekday lunch offering, doubled the number of outdoor tables, and started serving beer and wine. The kitchen turns seafood from the Gothenburg fish auction into fish ‘n’ chips, fried herring, and more.
On Klädesholmen, Sweden's herring island, this fast-food spot is known for its herring burger on brioche with homemade mash or fries. The kitchen also prepares breaded haddock, fried langoustine tails, and calamari rings with roasted citrus mayo and parmesan, all packed for takeaway to the rocks.
