"Outdoor Dining Area" Street Food Restaurants in Göteborg
Modern Asian cuisine with influences from China, Japan and Southeast Asia, featuring dumplings, noodles and seasonal dishes. The stylish interior and central location create a contemporary setting for lunch and dinner.
Fish ‘n’ chips, moules frites, and fish burger: Childhood friends Oliver Bull and Adam Axelsson present maritime classics as “fast food from the sea,” served in a cool, tiled space. They started with a food truck in the archipelago and now run several locations in Gothenburg and one in Stockholm.
While tasting different kinds of street food in Asia, Giovanna Lögdahl and Jacob Vang got inspired to start a foodtruck. At Gamlestadens Fabriker, in a former boiler room from 1903, they recreate the feeling of being at a festival, just indoors. The menu spans burgers, grilled dishes and snacks.
One of around 40 stalls in Gothenburg’s iconic Stora Saluhallen from 1889, this U-shaped counter serves traditional Swedish husmanskost for lunch: steamed salmon with dill, smoked mackerel, seafood soup, cabbage rolls, and more. After 3 p.m., beef with onions joins the menu as “the late bird.”
Despite the modest garage location, the "buttery breads" come in a cosy space with a creative vibe. This sandwich shop offers Reuben, grilled cheese, a unique take on the tuna melt and a weekly special. An international selection of beer and wine, quiz nights, and DJs make it a popular meeting spot.
Andreas Olsson Wijk grew up smoking fish in his grandfather’s garden on Vrångö, where his family has fished for many generations. Out of this tradition grew Fiskeboa: a smokehouse that became two fish shops, on Vrångö and neighbouring Donsö, stocked with the catch of the day and homemade delicacies.
When baked at 460 °C, a pizza is ready in just 90 seconds. At this pizzeria simply called "dough", which opened in 2021, the high-temp method from Italy meets toppings with a Nordic twist. The 1970s-inspired interior refers to the decade when pizza had its breakthrough in Sweden.
In the Utby suburb or simply in need of a filling snack? This small street food spot serves eight types of burgers, fries with or without toppings, and chicken pops with cheese sauce. To keep things fresh, a special (and even a new sauce!) is introduced on the first of each month.
Among the six burrito versions are the Espaldilla with grass-fed beef in a spicy chipotle marinade; the Carnitas, pork shoulder braised for eight hours; and a vegan jackfruit option. Bowls without the tortilla and tacos complete the menu. Open since 2014, a second location in Stampen opened in 2016.
When it opened in 2009, this family-run restaurant was among the first in Gothenburg to introduce Korean cooking. Today, it offers classics like bibimbap, bulgogi, and bokkeum alongside Japanese dishes such as sushi and sukiyaki. A strong lineup of vegan dishes centres on tofu and fresh vegetables.
On Klädesholmen, Sweden's herring island, this fast-food spot is known for its herring burger on brioche with homemade mash or fries. The kitchen also prepares breaded haddock, fried langoustine tails, and calamari rings with roasted citrus mayo and parmesan, all packed for takeaway to the rocks.
When Andreas Andersson made street food in a shipping container in 2014, he didn't expect to run a burger chain with seven locations a decade later. The first permanent venue has been this one in central Gothenburg, open since 2018. It serves a wide range of burgers, paired with beer or shakes.
At "gourmet sausage", a range of 18 speciality sausages is served (streetfood-style on paper plates) with mashed potatoes, grilled chimichurri bread and other available sides. Since opening at this central address in 2008, the concept has extended to one more location in Gothenburg's Heden district.
Four friends launched this Chinese sharing concept in 2011 because they missed dim sum and dumplings from their travels. The kitchen makes them by hand, flavoured with Sichuan pepper, Hoisin sauce, or star anise. Three set menus make ordering easy, but everything also comes à la carte.
Twelve-hour pork bone broth and homemade noodles form the base of the bowls at this ramen spot in the charming Linnéstaden district. Soups are also available with a chicken broth base, plus four vegan options. Steamed buns and rice bowls, as well as mochi and matcha ice cream, complete the meal.
Steamed bao buns with pork belly, hoisin, kimchi, and peanuts, plus vegan buns with tofu, and thaicos (Asian-spiced pork mince with charred tortilla): Three signature dishes come from this food truck, parked on the square between design store Artilleriet and third-wave coffee icon Da Matteo.
Both a cocktail bar and a sandwich shop, this Cuban-inspired cottage masters an unusual combination of concepts. The grilled sourdough sandwiches may look simple, but they deliver strong flavors and form a solid base for mojitos and daiquiris. Regulars appreciate the generous opening hours.
Since opening in 2023, this spot has served American comfort food: burgers, hot dogs, Reuben sandwiches, fried chicken, and milkshakes. The kitchen celebrates U.S. diner traditions, which are otherwise rarely found in Sweden, and the retro-styled space with a couple of tables matches the concept.
