Hospices de Beaune auction to be held for 162nd time on 20 November

The 162nd iteration of Burgundy's historic Hospices de Beaune charity auction will be held on 20 November 2022.

Hospices de Beaune, the oldest charity wine auction in the world, is traditionally held on the third Sunday in November.

Merchants and wine lovers bid for whole barrels of wine. Among them is the so-called Pièce du President, whose sale proceeds are dedicated to a different charity each year.

"This year, two themes are important, and both are reflective of the Hospices de Beaune wine estate today: the journey towards organic conversion, now in its second year, and the exceptional 2022 vintage," said Ludivine Griveau, the manager of the 60-acre Hospices de Beaune wine estate.

From the beginning of the season the vines were in good shape and the flowering took place under perfect conditions, Griveau added. "We were afraid of drought, but the vines were ready to produce. So it pushed us to the limit in terms of decisions to regulate yields for the sake of quality."

The Hospices de Beaune wine auction will be conducted in association with Sotheby's at 2pm on Sunday 20 November in the Halles de Beaune. The funds raised this year will benefit two children's charities in particular, Princesse Margot and Vision du Monde.
