A time out from city life

As the first international five-star superior hotel in the largest winter and summer vacation destination in Central Switzerland, the Kempinski Palace Engelberg is a refuge for every season. With the promise of exclusivity and luxury, the newest jewel in the Kempinski family stands for a relaxing stay far away from the fast-paced city life.

"The need for beautiful and high-quality retreats has never been as great as it is today. Escaping from our hectic lifestyles has become central. We are very excited to offer our guests a place where they can relax and harmonize their body and mind in a luxurious environment," says Andreas Magnus, General Manager of Kempinski Palace Engelberg. "It is part of our Kempinski DNA to create bespoke experiences for people with a sense of style and taste, while creating unparalleled places for them."

Swiss Alps as a source of inspiration

Immediately upon arrival, the historic building manages to cast a spell over its guests. Inspired by the Swiss Alps, carefully selected local materials such as wood and stone play a major role in the new Kempinski Palace Engelberg. The design draws on the subtle textures and colors of nature. High-quality craftsmanship and traditional techniques have been used in a contemporary way, alpine motifs have been taken up and transformed.

The successful Engelberg hotelier Eduard Cattani had the building in the late 19th century by his brother, the architect Arnold Cattani, and made it famous far beyond the borders of Switzerland.

Casual elegance meets the lightness of being

Hidden treasures from the past were rediscovered during the construction work and skillfully integrated into the new interior design. Tile mosaics and marble, hexagonal motifs, coffered ceilings, chandeliers and the niches in the bedrooms of the Belle Epoque wing are reminiscent of the building's traditional past. A cozy fireplace, which is part of an alpine atmosphere, has also been retained. In terms of color, hazy shades of gray and muted colors dominate, providing a sophisticated contrast to traditional, expressive marble and mosaic work. At the same time, unusual materials such as wool, wickerwork, wood grains, copper and antique brass add a special touch and contrast playfully with the texture and feel of the building.

A unique view of the mountains

The 129 rooms and suites feature bright colors and elegant materials such as brushed oak and high-quality leather in warm brown tones. Soft green and blue tones convey a feeling of fresh mountain air. The relaxed interplay of historical details, state-of-the-art furnishings, such as box-spring beds from Swiss manufacturer Elite, and a spectacular Panoramic view of the mountainsspreads a feel-good ambience in a class of its own.

Gastronomic highlights from the region

Furnished in an elegant European style and influenced by the local culture, the "Cattani Restaurant" conveys a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere. The quietly situated terrace offers a unique view of the spectacular mountain landscape and invites guests to linger and enjoy. The menu features seasonal products from local producers. These are prepared by Executive Chef Michéle Müllerone of the few female chefs in a Swiss five-star superior hotel, to create delicious culinary delights.

A spa flooded with light for all the senses

For "Kempinski The Spa", located on the top floor, the Alps served as an obvious inspiration. Stone, smooth as pebbles or roughly hewn, contrasts with graphic lines of wood. The influence of the mountain landscape is abstract, but always in harmony with the view of the incomparable panorama. The wellness area offers the perfect place to relax with an infinity pool with spacious sunbathing areas, a relaxation room with an open Himalayan salt stone fireplace. Selected massages and treatments ensure a soothing journey for all the senses.
