Restaurant Home Delivery Set to Stay

The pandemic changed many habits, according to a UK report, restaurant home delivery is one that is likely to stay.

Consumer-demand for restaurant home delivery is set to continue, a new reports says.

89% of consumers want the restaurant brand they ordered home-deliveries from to continue providing this service, according to the report commissioned by hospitality e-commerce platform Slerp.com, even after the end of lockdown restrictions. 62% want their favourite restaurants to continue offering “cook or finish-at-home” meal boxes.

Huge potential

Katie Moses, managing director of KAM Media who conducted the research, said restaurant home delivery “has really proven itself to be a sustainable revenue and brand builder.” The £11.4 billion food service delivery market in the UK is said to grow to £12.6 billion by 2024, after an initial slump as venues reopen. “Demand not only remains strong but overall awareness of the category shows huge potential post-pandemic,” Moses added.

Categories surveyed included ready-cooked meals, finish-at-home menu boxes and ingredient boxes to cook from scratch.

According to the Lumina UK Foodservice Delivery Market Report 2021, 4.3 million of UK adults ordered home delivery meals for the first time in 2020. While research was conducted in the UK only, these findings can likely be extrapolated to other, similarly developed markets.
