Istra - Istrien

Istria shares a lot in common with northeast Italy and coastal Slovenia. Wine has always played a part in society here with vineyards planted on the rolling hills amongst timeworn stone villas with views to mountain top villages. The region is home to three prominent, local grape varieties; Istrian Malvazija which makes dry, refreshing whites with citrus overtones, is probably the flagship wine of the region. Teran (Refosco) is the most significant red variety and Muškat Momjanski is either fermented dry to show off its floral aromatics, or sweet.
