The Vinedos Alonso Del Yerro winery is a new and exciting project on the Spanish wine scene. Founded in 2002 by Javier Alonso and Maria del Yerro, the winery is already making a name for itself. The aim of the two is not to create a copy of existing, outstanding Ribera del Duero wines, but to produce wines with an individual character that reflect the terroir and, above all, the characteristics of the grape varieties. 26 hectares are planted with vines at a considerable altitude of 800 to 850 meters above sea level. In order to achieve the goals set, the company not only employs an in-house oenologist, but has also secured the services of Bordeaux winemaking icon Stéphane Derenoncourt. Not only is he a passionate advocate of biodynamic viticulture, his oenological skills are held in the same high regard as those of the legendary oenologist Michel Rolland, having demonstrated them impressively at top wineries such as Chateau La Mondotte, Argentiera, Opus One and Dominus. Vinedos Alonso Del Yerro, however, is the only Spanish winery that he advises. Before the start, the estate's own parcels were examined by terroir specialist Xavier Choné, who has made a legendary name for himself with his soil analyses at Chateau d'Yquem. This resulted in a division into 27 sub-parcels. The wines impress with their freshness and fine elegance; they are not "monster wines" or "blockbusters", but each one is a small work of art in terms of terroir and grape variety character. This also means that the excessive use of new wood is consistently avoided. These wines are still an insider tip, but the question is for how much longer.
