Passerina is an autochthonous white wine variety from central Italy. Cultivated areas can be found in the regions of Abruzzo, Marche, Umbria and Lazio. Its cultivation is recommended in the provinces of Ancona, Ascoli Piceno, Frosinone and Macerata. It is approved in the province of Teramo. In 1999, a planted vineyard area of 1,160 hectares was recorded. It is often used as a table grape. When harvested early, the variety has a strong acid structure and is therefore popular for producing spumante. Their white wine finds its way into the DOC wines Controguerra and Falerio dei Colli Ascolani as well as the DOCG wine Offida. Passerina is a variety of the noble grape vine (Vitis vinifera). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is therefore self-fertile. When growing wine, the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce any yield is avoided
