5 Places in Europe to Enjoy the Cherry Blossom
Cherry blossom in Europe: You don't need to travel to Japan to experience a sea of cherry trees in full bloom.
Bonn, Germany
Amsterdam, Netherlands
That the Netherlands is known as the land of flowers is nothing new. But in this case, the protagonists are not colorful tulips, but pink cherry blossoms. In Bloesempark in Amsterdamse Bos, there are more than 400 cherry trees that come together between March and April to form a carpet of blossoms. Whether during a good book, a romantic walk or a small picnic, the sea of blossoms, which unfortunately only lasts for a short time, immerses Amsterdam every spring in a unique ambience. Once a year, the park also hosts the Cherry Blossom Festival (Hanami Matsuri), with vendors that offer, among other things, authentic Japanese street food.
Stockholm, Sweden
Sweden's capital Stockholm also attracts visitors with its pink-red spring flowers between March and April. At this time, the Japanese cherry trees in Kungsträdgården (King's Garden), one of the city's oldest parks, are in full bloom and attract tourists from all over the world. Concerts, art exhibitions and festivals are held here regularly, making it the perfect destination, especially as temperatures get warmer. Surrounded by cute cafes and great restaurants, you can spend an exuberant day in the splendor of the cherry blossoms right in the center of Stockholm.
London, UK
Especially because the cherry blossom season passes as quickly as it came, a quick short trip within Europe is just the thing to admire them. In this sense, the British capital also delights London jedes Frühjahr.
Vilnius, Lithuania
A true tribute: to commemorate the 100th birthday of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, more than 200 Japanese cherry trees were planted in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in 2021. This gift from the Japanese government is dedicated to the man who saved about 6,000 Jews from Lithuania, Poland and Germany. Since then, a veritable sea of blossoms can be admired at Sakura Park, which was planted next to the National Art Gallery.
