Belmond Orient Express to make its first December departures

Travel Essentials

Belmond launches winter itineraries for the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, including Paris to Florence.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express usually travels in Europe between March and November, the legendary luxury train gaining its reputation through books and films. It is now operated by Belmond Train, and will offer winter tours for the first time this year, with several routes planned for December, including the classic journeys of Paris to Venice and Paris to Vienna, besides recently launched routes to/from Florence. Guests will be able to experience the Christmas markets and traditions of these cities, Belmond says.

Prices for a one-night journey aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, A Belmond Train, Europe, start from £2,920 per person. Chef Jean Imbert will serve winter-inspired seasonal menus with local ingredients and, as usual, Bar Car ‘3674' will be the place for cocktails and conviviality, with a pianist who plays until the last person heads to their bed.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express comprises 17 original 1920s and 1930s carriages, each with its own history. The train offers Historic Cabins and six Grand Suites, named after the cities that have inspired the designs – including Paris, Vienna and Venice.

The train will travel the classic journey from Venice to Paris on the 2nd and 12th of December and from Paris to Venice on December 20. The train will stop in Florence on December 7 (Venice to Paris) and December 8 (Paris to Venice). The train will depart from Paris to Vienna on December 17 and make the return journey (Vienna to Paris) on December 18.
