“CopenPay”: Copenhagen once again rewards sustainable travel
In mid-June 2025, the second round of the “CopenPay” initiative will kick off: Anyone who gets around the Danish capital in an eco-friendly way will receive discounts at bars, museums, and many other attractions.
If you travel to Copenhagen in an environmentally friendly way, you can rejoice: from June 17, 2025, the Danish capital will once again be rewarding sustainable holidaymakers with attractive discounts - from free museum admission and guided tours to free bicycles and yoga classes. The campaign is part of the city's “CopenPay” initiative, which specifically promotes climate-friendly travel during the summer months.
What's your reward?
What began as a four-week pilot project in 2024 will enter its second and significantly expanded round in 2025. The program duration of “CopenPay” was extended to nine weeks and the number of participating partner institutions more than tripled from 20 to around 90. These include attractions such as the National Museum, the National Gallery of Denmark, the UNESCO World Heritage Kronborg Castle, the Copenhill adventure area and the GoBoat boat rental system.
Travel by train or electric car is also rewarded, but air travelers can also benefit - provided they offset CO₂ emissions by purchasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), an offer that many airlines now make.
Role model function
Longer stays are also specifically promoted: If you spend four or more nights in Copenhagen, you receive access to additional benefits such as discounted meals, free bicycles or special guided tours. The aim is to reduce the frequency of travel and promote a more conscious use of tourism resources.
Other cities are taking a similar approach: In Lyon, rail travelers receive small discounts on the City Card, while Bremen is offering surprise packages with local specialties for train travelers this summer - while stocks last.
