When April weather turns unpredictable, the urge to travel grows stronger. From Andalusian flair to volcanic island landscapes, these destinations promise mild temperatures, sunshine and the vibrant beauty of spring. Falstaff TRAVEL presents six places that are particularly magical in April.

Seville, Spain

Climate: Daytime highs around 24–25°C, approximately 8–9 hours of sunshine per day, and 4–6 rainy days in April.

Why go: Spring is when Seville truly shines. The capital of Andalusia captivates visitors with its blend of Moorish heritage, monumental architecture and vibrant street life. In the historic centre, narrow lanes lead from one landmark to another – from the majestic Seville Cathedral and the Royal Alcázar to the contemporary Metropol Parasol.

As the birthplace of flamenco, Seville comes alive after sunset, particularly in the lively Triana district, where tapas bars, sherry and music create an unmistakably Andalusian atmosphere. Traditional Easter processions add a deeply cultural dimension to the city in April. And for those seeking the sea, the Atlantic coast is just a short trip away.

Cape Town, South Africa

Climate: Average temperatures around 26°C, 8 hours of sunshine per day, and about 6 rainy days in April.

Why go: Few cities combine dramatic landscapes and creative energy quite like Cape Town. The iconic Table Mountain rises above the “Mother City,” while its vibrant cultural scene unfolds around Bree Street and the artistic neighbourhood of Woodstock, known for contemporary galleries and striking street art.

The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) highlights the continent’s dynamic art scene, while restaurants such as The Pot Luck Club attract culinary travellers from around the world.

Beyond the city, the scenic Winelands of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch invite visitors for memorable tastings, while destinations like Babylonstoren and the nature reserve of Grootbos offer exceptional day trips. On 27 April, locals celebrate Freedom Day, often marked by a traditional braai – South Africa’s beloved barbecue ritual.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Climate: Daytime highs around 15°C, about 5 hours of sunshine per day, and roughly 8 rainy days in April.

Why go:
In April, Amsterdam transforms into a sea of flowers. The city’s canals, historic houses and world-renowned museums – including the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Anne Frank House – provide a beautiful backdrop to the famous Dutch tulip season.

The bloom usually peaks in mid-April, making it one of the best times of the year to visit. For the ultimate floral spectacle, a trip to the legendary Keukenhof Gardens, just outside the city, is essential.

Marrakech, Morocco

Climate: Daytime highs around 24–25°C, about 8–9 hours of sunshine per day, and 4–6 rainy days in April.

Why go: Framed by the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, Marrakech is a city of contrasts where centuries-old traditions meet contemporary creativity.

In the historic Medina, the famous Djemaa el-Fna square comes alive with food stalls, storytellers, musicians and artisans. Hidden riads and tranquil gardens such as the Jardin Majorelle provide peaceful retreats from the vibrant streets.

With its rich history, craftsmanship and cultural diversity, Marrakech remains one of North Africa’s most captivating destinations.

Lisbon, Portugal

Climate: Daytime highs around 20–22°C, nighttime temperatures around 12–13°C, about 8–9 hours of sunshine per day, and 5–7 rainy days in April.

Landmarks such as Praça do Comércio, the Torre de Belém and the Jerónimos Monastery reflect the city’s maritime heritage, while lively districts like Bairro Alto showcase Lisbon’s contemporary energy with stylish boutiques, bars and cafés.

Food lovers can indulge in fresh seafood, modern Portuguese cuisine and the iconic pastéis de nata, as well as Michelin-starred restaurants such as Belcanto. Just outside the city, the fairytale palaces of Sintra and the Atlantic coast around Cascais make ideal spring excursions.

Why go: Known as the greenest of the Canary Islands, La Palma is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Following the 2021 eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, the island gained dramatic new landscapes that make exploration even more fascinating. One of the most spectacular routes is the Volcano Route, stretching more than 20 kilometres across the island and connecting El Paso, Mazo and Fuencaliente.

The trail rewards hikers with breathtaking views over volcanic terrain and the Atlantic Ocean. Cyclists can explore the 35-kilometre route around Cumbre Vieja, which winds through lush vegetation with the ocean on one side and volcanic cones on the other.
