Plastic-free until 2022
The Six Senses Hotels want to be plastic-free by 2022. To achieve this, they are now receiving support from the SustainChain. A platform that drives action to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. With a focus on global collaboration, the platform connects participants in the sustainability ecosystem to join collective enterprises, share best practices and scale solutions.
Starting with disposable plastic products, every Six Senses Resort is gradually getting rid of plastic. However, a lot of innovation is required to achieve thisFrom packaging materials to fabrics and furniture. On the SustainChain platform, you can exchange ideas with the relevant suppliers and develop strategies together to bring about long-term change.
Six Senses has been committed to reducing disposable products for many years. The hotel chain began using refillable ceramic dispensers in the bathrooms back in the 1990s. Since 2003, there have also been refillable glass bottles with specially treated water. Across the Group in 2019/2020, over 2.4 million plastic bottles saved. Straws have also been dispensed with for some time now.

At the same time, Jeffrey Smith, Vice President Sustainabilty, and Six Senses Yao Noi worked on a prototype for a plastic-free kitchen, which will now also be available at the group's other resorts. Smith explains: "The cooperation with SustainChain opens up new avenues for innovation and collaboration with value chains. This will not only enable us to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals, but also our major goal of becoming plastic-free in 2022. We are already seeing great progress and the opportunity to continue growing together."
