Luxury icon in Saint-Tropez opens after several years of renovations

The legendary grand hotel Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez has received an extensive facelift. After a three-year renovation phase, the ultimate hideaway on the French Riviera now welcomes guests again.

It is no exaggeration to say that this palace hotel in Saint-Tropez is a legend. Located on the coast of the Mediterranean, the Château de la Messardière is a historic property that has its roots in the 19th century. Its coat of arms has been known since 1669 and stories about the estate are part of French folklore. The château was once privately owned by an officer and an artist. It finally became a hotel in 1904.

It was already the place to be on the French Riviera during the Roaring Twenties, thanks to its beautiful salons, immaculate gardens and large suites. And that hasn't changed much to this day. On the contrary: about a hundred years later, the palace hotel in Saint-Tropez shines in even brighter splendour.

Airelles takes over

In 2019, the LOV Hotel Collection acquired the Château de la Messardière to reopen it as a luxury hotel on the Côte d'Azur as part of the Airelles subsidiary. It took three years to rebuild. The internationally renowned architect and interior designer Chtistophe Tollemer was responsible for the improvements. The Frenchman, who also designed the Le Grand Contrôle, Château de Versailles by Airelles, did a great job.

He reduced the number of rooms by 33 to 108 to make room for 75 new, spacious rooms and suites. In addition, there are three Signature Suites with more than 50 square meters of living space in the turrets of the castle. In a separate building, 8 to 15 rooms can be connected to form a unit with its own garden. It allows for a lot of privacy for larger groups or guests with staff.

Even bigger, even more beautiful

The public areas have also been given a makeover, such as the Valmont Spa, which now welcomes its guests with a chic look. The restaurants leave nothing to be desired. For example, you can dine at L'Auberges des Maures, the village's legendary restaurant. If you feel more like dining out, the Matsuhisa Saint-Tropez offers a light menu. In addition, the new Airelles Château de la Messardière offers an extravagant gourmet buffet. The service is impeccable.

Attentive staff look after you even by the pool - for example with an ice cream trolley and cocktails. In the new sports pool, you can enjoy views of Pampelonne Bay surrounded by the wonderful gardens. Speaking of the bay: the nearby Jardin Tropézina, the hotel's private beach, invites you to relax and unwind. The best way to get there is in the hotel's own Rolls Royce Cullinan. The Château de la Messardière is also part of the Airelles Collection, as are the Château de Versailles, the Pan Dei Palais, La Bastide, Les Airelles Courchevel and Le Brussel's.
