Michelin Guide 2023: Munich's star chefs
Munich remains Germany's gourmet hotspot. Several restaurants were awarded the coveted Michelin stars - here is an overview.
The Michelin Guide has awarded its stars to top chefs in Germany for 2023. It's the highest and therefore also the most coveted award of their profession. The rising star of the year is Jan Hartwig, who has cooked his way to the top with his restaurant Jan in Munich's Museumsquartier.
Three stars right away: Jan Hartwig
Remaining at star level: Anton Gschwendtner
Hartwig's successor in the studio also follows in his footsteps full of courage and inventiveness.
Max Natmessig wins two stars for the Alois
Max Natmessnig is also one of the kitchen talents to be taken seriously on the Munich gourmet scene: the 34-year-old immediately earned two stars in his new position as head chef at the Alois restaurant of the Dallmayr delicatessen.
Thereby Natmessnig once again demonstrates his ambition to remain on the Olympus of top domestic cuisine. Last year, he was already named Chef of the Year 2022 by the Austrian Gault Millau. Since October, he has been cooking for Alois in downtown Munich.
Two stars each for three talents
Benjamin Chmura, head chef at Tantris, and Tohru Nakamura, who wields the scepter at his own gourmet restaurant Tohru in the Schreiberei, continue to cook consistently at two-star level. Another fighter in the top class remains the gourmet restaurant Esszimmer in the BMW World with head chef Bobby Bräuer. It has been awarded two stars by Michelin since 2015.
One star for Daniel Bodamer and Rico Birndt
There was one star each for the Brothers with chef Daniel Bodamer, as well as for the Mural Farmhouse with chef Rico Birndt.
Across Germany, 334 restaurants have been awarded with Michelin stars. This means that there are now 10 three-star restaurants, 50 restaurants with two stars and 274 restaurants with one star nationwide.
