Our Top 7 of the most beautiful lakes in Austria:

Achensee, Tyrol

Cool mountain lake in the middle of the Alps

You can look forward to dreamlike postcard panoramas at the Achensee, also called the "Tyrolean Sea". Due to its location in the middle of the Alps, the region around the Achensee is perfect for hiking and cycling. As a mountain lake, however, the Achensee is one of the cooler lakes in Austria: the water temperature does not rise above a crisp 18-20°C even in summer.

Wolfgangsee, Salzburg

Cultural asset with excellent water quality

Lake Wolfgang, enclosed by the Salzkammergut mountains, is so well known and popular both for its drinking water quality and for its historical significance: it is a genuine cultural asset and served, among other things, as the backdrop for the operetta "Im weißen Rössl". Adrenaline junkies can let off steam here by cliff jumping at one of the world's highest cliff jumps. The average water temperature in summer is 20 - 24°C.

Lake Fuschl, Salzburg

A journey through time in the Salzkammergut

Another natural jewel in the Salzkammergut is the Fuschlsee. Crystal clear, turquoise blue water awaits you at this small but beautiful lake. The water temperature is between 21 and 23°C in summer. A real fairytale palace is Fuschl Castle, which lies directly on the lake and has already housed archbishops, empresses and film stars since 1450. Today it lends the region a very special magic.

Mondsee, Upper Austria

Warm bathing lake with spectacular scenery

The Mondsee is one of the few large lakes that are privately owned. There are many legends surrounding its name. In fact, it was named after the Mannsee, an old noble family. With a water temperature of up to 26°C, Mondsee is one of the warmest lakes in the region.

Traunsee, Upper Austria

A lake of superlatives

Lake Traunsee is the deepest lake in Austria at 191 metres. It is also the second largest lake that lies entirely within the country's borders: Only the Attersee is even larger. In the category of water temperature, the Traunsee is also at the top, but at the lower end: with an average of 19°C, a jump into the lake remains a real cooling even in high summer.
