Self Description
Mefisto Restaurant & Courtyard
Nestled in the heart of Aarhus’ historic Latin Quarter, Mefisto Restaurant & Courtyard has been a culinary landmark for more than 20 years. Under the guidance of Danish gastronomic legend Lars Kyllesbech, Mefisto proudly upholds its motto: »Straightforward, uncomplicated and cosy.« A tribute to classic craftsmanship and honest cooking.
Located on the charming cobblestoned street Volden — »The Embankment« — Mefisto’s large windows open onto the vibrant atmosphere of the Latin Quarter. All year round, guests can enjoy their meal or a glass of wine outside on the pavement. From Easter through autumn, the spacious south-facing courtyard welcomes diners with cobblestones, lush greenery, and a delightful glimpse of Aarhus Cathedral.
The ambiance is relaxed and welcoming, with attentive yet informal service. The interior is elegantly styled with a distinct French flair. Walls are adorned with artwork and historic menus from Denmark’s rich gastronomic heritage. Adjacent to the restaurant, Mefisto’s intimate bar features red velour furnishings and impressive murals painted directly onto the walls by Danish artist Søren Behncke.
Open seven days a week, Mefisto offers a full menu with a particular passion for fish and seafood, earning multiple nominations and accolades as one of Denmark’s finest seafood restaurants. The day begins with brunch — three or seven delicacies served in one presentation — while the lunch menu features beloved Danish classics such as the seafood feast »Stjerneskud« and traditional open-faced sandwiches »Smørrebrød«. In the evening, guests may choose between a changing three-course menu or an extensive à la carte selection. The wine list is carefully curated, featuring an exclusive range of exceptional French white wines.
