The success of the "Arachon" was never in doubt with its three founding fathers Tibor Szemes, F.X. Pichler, and Manfred Tement, whose initials adorn the "T.FX.T" series. Central Burgenland is the home of "Arachon" and the name of the wine is the old name of the wine-growing village of Horitschon. The grapes for the "Arachon" and its little brother "A'Kira" come from the best vineyards.
After the completely unexpected death of Tibor Szemes, who was undoubtedly the driving force behind this project at the beginning, his widow Illa and his son Oscar filled the gap together for a few years. However, fate once again struck the family hard in July 2018, when Illa also passed away far too young at the age of just 54. With the "Arachon", Illa and Tibor have created the most worthy monument to themselves, without ever intending to do so, because their beloved wines stand for people working together in friendship across national borders - an idea that can be a role model for many others.
After these heavy losses, son Oscar has now taken the place of his parents, who died far too young, and with great commitment the Szemes, Tement and Pichler families have decided to continue the "Arachon" in the spirit of Illa and Tibor. It will be exciting to see some great changes in these Austrian wine legends.
The two "Arachon" wines are vinified under the care of the three wine-growing personalities and matured in Oscar Szemes' cellar in Pinkafeld. The three "Arachon" gurus are increasingly focusing on an elegant style for their wines. Wood is only used discreetly in the form of 500-litre barrels. They know how to lend elegance and freshness to the main variety, Blaufränkisch. A balanced tannin-acid ratio tempts you to drink the wines while they are still young, which does not detract from their ageing certain ageing potential.
In memory of Illa and Tibor, "Arachon" and "A'Kira" stand for pure pleasure and true joie de vivre.
