Bodegas Emilio Moro

Falstaff Online Austria 2023

Founded in 1988, this exceptional winery was created at a time when the region was just beginning to become world-famous. After Vega Sicilia, which has been producing wine here for many decades, Bodegas Emilio Moro can be considered one of the main protagonists of this upswing, alongside Pesquera, for example. The history may still be very young, but the Moro family can draw on generations of experience in winegrowing in the country. The winery, located in Pesquera del Duero, cultivates over 55 hectares of vineyards, many of which have vines that are up to 80 years old. In order to maintain quality at the highest level, the yields from these vineyards are very low. However traditional the vineyards may be, the modern wine cellar is state of the art and offers everything needed to bring the must and wine to top form. The family is well aware that nature, not technology, is responsible for the expression and character of the wines. Where others rely on international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah in addition to the local Tempranillo, the bodega has opted specifically for Tempranillo, which is found 100% in every bottle of Emilio Moro. But why not break new ground? When the Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo fell in love with the Ribera del Duero region of all places after his career ended, it was clear that he wanted to start a wine project with Emilio Moro, which is causing a sensation under the name "Cepa 21". The nice thing about the bodega is that these expressive wines, among which the "Malleolus", produced from the best sites with very old vines, stands out in particular, are all available for measured prices compared to others, which is good news for Ribera del Duero fans.
