The Hungarian winery Fischer, whose headquarters are in the Rosalia region of Austria, is located between seven volcanic mountains. Exceptional wines are grown here on 80 hectares. The Fischer family began planting the first 15 hectares in 2002.
From the very beginning, the focus was on the production of high-quality wines. This is guaranteed by a low vine yield. Therefore, 6,500 vines were planted per hectare in order to harvest only half the vine yield of around 1 to 1.5 kilograms per vine. This results in extremely dense wines. In combination with the volcanic red soil, wines are produced here that have an enormous minerality. This is also the reason why the white wines also have great ageing potential and often only provide optimum drinking pleasure after two to three years, depending on the variety.
Nine varieties are cultivated, one third of which are white wines and two thirds red wines. The white wines are Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Szürkebarát (Pinot Grigio), while the red wines are Zweigelt, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
