Falstaff Wine Guide Germany 2024

The Julius Treis winery is located in Reil on the Middle Moselle and looks back on a winemaking tradition that began in 1684. Tobias Treis has been running the winery since 2008, taking into account the knowledge of terroir and the characteristics of the almost seven hectares of steep and steeply sloping vineyards that he has accumulated over generations. Naturally, Riesling plays first fiddle in the orchestra of grape varieties with Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder. In his debut in the guide, the winemaker impresses with skillfully balanced Rieslings. A good performance!

Please forgive us for not making a Riesling a Falstaff tip this year, this is not intended as a devaluation of Tobias Treis' Riesling art. But it is simply not often that a Moselle winegrower bottles such a full-bodied Gewürztraminer. Anyone with a heart for specialties will love this wine. Those who prefer Mosel classics, i.e. Riesling, also have plenty of choice in the current range. The "Alte Reben", which is labeled without a site designation, is a feast with mineral depth, while the GG from Marienburg is a savoury delight.
