The red wine »Mönchenberg« Rhöndorf Drachenfels Spätburgunder trocken, vintage 2019 from the winery Weingut Pieper has been rated in 2022 by Ulrich Sautter with 93+ Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Spätburgunder from the region Mittelrhein in Germany.
Quite dark in colour. The nose is heart cherry and fresh fruit, with fine notes of clove, ripe raspberry and a hint of strawberry cordial. There's also some wood spice and wood shavings on show. Good concentration and also freshness on the palate, which is concentrated and tightly woven but never too ponderous thanks to good internal tension and radiant fruit. Very grown-up.
