Lounge Bars in Vienna
The Hawaiian shirts of Arik and Matty Vinnitski's team are colourful, but so is the cocktail menu - and both go well with the colourful tiki mugs made in-house. The cheerful world of strong rum cocktails with a Polynesian flavour has clearly found its Viennese home: Zombie, Mai Tai ... it's all here!
It turned out exactly as Peter Friese had dreamed. The diversity of the Italian gastronomic experience in democratic form came to Vienna. Panini and small pasta dishes, but also "Garibaldi" and "Sarti Spritz". An orange slice served in a tumbler accompanied by the signature card of David Penker's team. Much love!
The Luster likes to set Asian accents when it comes to cocktail culture. Experimental mixes made from unusual ingredients take you into new worlds of flavour in a casual atmosphere. The "Shrooming", for example, combines Japanese gin, shōchū, roasted rice and shiitake to create a fascinating flavour adventure.
In the Instagram-ready bar, the glasses are filled differently depending on the season. But there are always a few standards - after all, it's never too late for a "Horse's Neck". When it comes to signatures, it's flavour and flavour only that counts: in the "Kracherl Royal", Uhudler vermouth meets gin, plum, lemon and Champagne.
The "Reiss" was once a quasi founding member of the newer Viennese bar scene, but after an up and down ride in the recent past, the iconic bar is now experiencing a renaissance - thanks to extremely knowledgeable mixology: with a textbook "Basil Smash" and a "Bitter Sweet Symphony" that lives up to its name.
The beautiful old wooden furniture alone provides plenty of flair, and for the right dose of hipness there are fine cocktails (refreshing "Golden Cadillac") as well as good things from the aperitivo cosmos in a slightly modified form. "Negroni Sour" is a sundowner par excellence. Nibbles of the week are also served.
Matthias Habringer, a master of his trade, inspires with creative and subtle creations and is constantly on the hunt for unusual ingredients. He penned the "Poison Ivy" with real matcha and honey or the fresh sage and lime daiquiri - and that's just the beginning of the cocktail adventure.
In a minimalist interior, cocktails are rethought with verve: the "Sputnik Shots" are almost legendary, but thanks to home-made spirits and a lot of creativity, professional barflies are also constantly discovering new things here, such as the "Prince of Vienna" with Cognac, Curaçao and - nomen est omen - Wiener Gemischtem Satz.
They are known for powerful drinks with dark spirits - from the "Berry Rum Smash" to Baba Sy's "Ice Tea" and the house classic "The Ed". But Zoran Djurovic remains innovative, for example with the aperitif campaign, which is also popularising the city classic with new customers. In 2026, you can wish the "First" a happy 30th birthday.
It should come as no surprise that casual music with vinyl sounds, cosy retro furniture and good drinks without the chichi are an ideal combination. In fact, even the coolest drink in the second "Needle" (for example an "Ottotai") tastes even better when you can browse through the vinyl selection.
The bar menu is pulled out in the evening at the latest: the all-day bar offers a wide range of top-quality cocktails. From aperitivi and sours to highballs and mules - there is guaranteed to be nothing missing. The bar can be proud of its own creations such as the "1090 Sprizz" with honey cordial and mirtillo.
As befits a classic pub, lovers of freshly tapped beer and whisk(e)y fans are in the right place here, but the small, fine selection of cocktails with a recognisable Irish focus also goes well with the well-made pub food: the range extends from the "Irish Negroni" to the "Irish Old Fashioned".
Café cosiness meets the energy of a bar! But with style - after all, we're in the heart of "Bobostan" here - so from coffee and focaccia we move straight on to long drinks, cocktails and aperitifs: With Negroni variety, every day is a good one anyway. The selection of natural wines is also impressive.
The name of the cool outdoor location not only refers to a family of ride operators, but also to the carefree "everything fits" feeling that is almost automatic here. This is also thanks to the drinks: "The Boner" (with Averna, MAKAvA and mint) is like summer poured into a glass.
The oriental shisha bar extends over three rooms and invites you to relax with water pipes and fine cocktails. The best place to start is at happy hour! Whether flint, fruity or smoky - you're sure to find what you're looking for. The refreshingly sweet and tangy "Jacky & Honey" with whiskey, lemon and honey was a winner.
A Viennese cocktail club that you should know. You'll notice it as soon as you enter: Not only are artful beats served here, but also exciting drinks. Despite the unusual, sometimes contradictory flavours, a perfect harmony is created. The "Delicious" with Ketel One Vodka, cinnamon and cucumber is the best proof of this.
It's time to slurp! You'll rarely find better oysters in the city, and when it comes to drinks, the remarkably friendly service only serves delicacies: a variety of wines and vermouths and creative non-alcoholic drinks complement an extensive selection of spritzes. Gin and vodka are combined according to guests' wishes.
The ambience and the equally appealing drinks are more than worthy of the "Steigenberger" name. The cocktails are suitably elegant, but with homemade syrups and essences, they are keen to experiment. One of the signatures is the "Highdudler" with gin, lemon, raspberry, basil and Almdudler.
In summer, the Schanigarten on the Danube Canal becomes a casual retreat for anyone in need of a short holiday. Folding chairs, containers and charming details create an "urban gardening flair". According to the motto "Rent your BBQ", you can also fire up the barbecue yourself. "Basil Smash", colourful Spritz and Bavarian beer await.
To speak of "gin love" is quite an understatement in this case, as there are an incredible 500 varieties that have been collected - to make the selection easier, there is a changing gin of the week. The friendly service and willingness to offer advice helps. And if necessary, there are 100 types of rum on top.
