Amtrak to launch fleet of ‘greener’ trains

New Airo models will be in operation in 2026.

One of the most famous names in world train travel, Amtrak, has revealed plans for a new fleet of trains that it expects to begin operating throughout North America in 2026.

The Amtrak Airo will travel at speeds of up to 125mph and be more fuel efficient, generating 90 per cent less particulate emissions in diesel operations, with Amtrak President Roger Harris saying: “As we invest in the future, Amtrak is leading the way with a new era of rail.”

The new fleet will not only feature modern and spacious interiors, they will have improved technology and enhanced lighting for customers. Along with new trains, Amtrak will priorities infrastructure projects, station upgrades and enhanced track capacity, with Harris adding: “Our new trains will transform the Amtrak experience with significant environmental benefits, a progressive design and world-class amenities.”
