The end of the year is approaching; some spend the evening of December 31st at a fine dining establishment or in nice restaurants in the city, others prefer the cosy option at home. And for all those who are drawn to another city, here is the current top list, according to the "Lonely Planet" travel guide, for celebrating New Year's Eve in spectacular style. Here are some of the destinations travellers should consider to welcome the New Year in style.

Place 5: Edinburgh

The Scottish capital offers one of the most impressive New Year's Eve experiences with its famous "Hogmanay" festival. From street parties to live music at the "Concert in the Garden" and the breathtaking fireworks display over Edinburgh Castle - there's something for everyone here.

4th place: Dublin

Dublin, the vibrant capital of Ireland, is known for its warm atmosphere and lively culture, and New Year's Eve is no exception. The epicenter of the festivities is often in the Temple Bar District, where the streets are filled with music, laughter and a festive atmosphere. Numerous pubs and bars offer live music, and locals and visitors celebrate the end of the year together.

3rd place: Paris

The "City of Love" also lives up to its reputation on New Year's Eve. The Eiffel Tower becomes the sparkling centerpiece of an impressive fireworks display, while the Champs-Élysées is transformed into a lively street party. Montmartre hill is said to have the best view of the city.
