Slovenia: Europe's green heart

Geheimtipps
Camping

Slovenia is small but incredibly diverse: the Alps, Karst, lakes, rivers, wine regions and even a stretch of the Adriatic coast are all close together here - perfect for a varied round trip.

Slovenia is about half the size of Austria, but with around 2.1 million inhabitants, it is much less densely populated. There is therefore plenty of space for untouched nature. The small country combines the Alps, karst landscapes, rivers, lakes, lovely wine regions and a short but charming Adriatic coastline in a compact form - perfect for a round trip.

The hospitality is great, the infrastructure is good

There are numerous campsites and pitches in attractive locations, directly by lakes, rivers or in the mountains. Outdoor enthusiasts can set off on hiking, kayaking or cycling tours directly from the car. In the evening, there is a picnic with Slovenian cheese, prosciutto, Kranjska Klobasa and wine, most of which comes from small, family-run wineries. In many places, old villas have been converted into romantic accommodation - and if you fancy a bit of city life after all that nature, stop off in the capital Ljubljana, in the coastal town of Piran or in Ptuj (the oldest city in the country), where historic old towns meet modern culture and a young creative scene.
