These are the safest solo travel destinations for women
Traveling alone - and consciously so; more and more women are discovering solo travel for themselves. The "TUI Solo Female Travel Index" reveals where you can travel carefree.
Solo travel is no longer a niche phenomenon - according to the latest TUI survey, over half of women (55%) have already traveled alone and a further 15.2% are planning to do so in the future. But what motivates women to set out on their own? And which are the safest destinations for solo travelers? This is the result of a TUI study.
Increasing desire for solo traveling
According to the results of the TUI study conducted together with the market research institute Appinio in January 2025, almost 30 percent of the 1,000 women surveyed focus on the desire to challenge themselves and surpass themselves, while almost as many (29.8 percent) want to enjoy the freedom to design their vacation entirely according to their own ideas.
But where should we go?
According to the women surveyed, the choice of travel destination depends on three aspects in particular: price (72.4 percent), climate and weather (55.4 percent) and safety (47.3 percent) are at the top of the list of most important criteria. Women's favorite summer travel destinations for 2025 are in Europe (41.1 percent).
The best solo travel destinations for women
Discovering new places, experiencing foreign cultures and feeling safe at all times - this is essential for women traveling alone.
According to the index , Finland, Sweden and Denmark are the top destinations for solo travelers worldwide. Scandinavian countries score highly in terms of safety, equality and good infrastructure - aspects that make traveling particularly pleasant.
But Spain, the Netherlands and Portugal are also among the favorites, while New Zealand is considered the best destination for solo travelers outside Europe. Serbia also made it into the top 10, which shows that Eastern European destinations are increasingly establishing themselves as attractive and safe travel destinations for women. Germany takes seventh place in the overall ranking.
Safe space by day and night
Especially after dark, women want to be able to leave the hotel feeling safe. TUI determined the safety score based on the equality and safety categories. In these countries, women are not only socially more equal, but also particularly safe on the road at any time of day. At the top of the safety comparison is Finland, while second place is shared by Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland and third place by the Netherlands and Spain.
A look at the gender gap of the five safest countries in the Safety Index reveals that Finland is in the lead, followed by Sweden and Spain.
