Around 190,000 search queries per second and 16.4 billion queries per year: this was the global query volume for the popular search engine Google in 2025. Direct conclusions about global trends can be drawn from search behavior. Back in 2002, Google published Zeitgeist, the first annual review of search queries - now known as Year in Search.
The year 2025 was intense, political and full of contrasts. Society was looking for answers to big questions - whether in the voting booth or when looking at the world map. At the same time, many longed for small escapes, not least to faraway countries. As every year, the Google Year in Review shows the "trending searches" - not the terms that were searched for the most in absolute terms, but those that recorded the highest increase in search interest compared to the previous year.
