Falstaff Wineguide Austria 2022/23

Domäne Wachau has developed into one of Austria's most important wineries with a range of typical Wachau-style wines under the management of Roman Horvath MW and Heinz Frischengruber. World-famous vineyards such as Achleiten, Kellerberg and Singerriedel are only a few examples of top sites vinified by the estate.

One crucial and relevant point not to be overlooked in the famed wines of Domäne Wachau is the work and know-how of the winegrowers.

Generations of families have worked in the steep terraces of the Wachau, passing down the in-depth knowledge of the special characteristics of each parcel. With meticulous manual work and enormous experience, they ensure an ecological balance in the vineyards, promote the diversity of species and plants, and increasingly pursue organic farming. Minimalism at the highest level of craftsmanship, that is wine making in the Wachau. Tradition and innovation are two sides of the same coin. As the production of expressive Rieden wines shows with the Backstage series which highlights new and especially old methods. The harmonious union of provenance, vintage and variety.

The Domäne Wachau was voted one of the World's Best Vineyards by an international tasting panel (No. 1 in Europe & No. 3 worldwide), making it a top destination for wine lovers from all over the world. The quality-oriented event program includes vineyard walks, winery tours, a Kellerschlössel Heuriger (a traditional inn) offering unique gastronomic experiences. Wachau visitors can also stock up at the Domäne Wachau’s Vinothek (wine shop) and at Shop 11A in Dürnstein's old town.
