Falstaff Wineguide Austria 2022/23

Where the Bohemian Massif of the Waldviertel meets the Molasse basin of the Weinviertel, at the foothills of the Manhartsberg, lies the old wine-growing town of Pulkau. Only a stone's throw away, in the small village of Groß-Reipersdorf, is Jordan winery. For over 160 years, winemaking has been a tradition here and since 2010 Simone Hiller-Jordan and her partner Hannes have been running the winery with the active support of her parents.

For Simone Hiller-Jordan being a winemaker means capturing the fascination of nature and bringing the best qualities that nature allows in to the cellar. The predominant soils of primary rock as well as loess and loam, coupled with the clash of the harsh Waldviertel winds and the Pannonian climate of the Weinviertel, create wonderful conditions for her expressive wines. The Weinviertel is dominated by white grape production but the Pulkau sites, especially the Ried Haselparz, form an island of red grapes, hence the affinity for red wine at the Jordan Winery. Simone Hiller-Jordan is particularly fond of the old Austrian varieties Zweigelt and St. Laurent. Freely following the motto "wineries are not created overnight, they are made by generations to become what they are today", the young vintner uses the knowledge of previous generations, combines it with her own experience and consciously involves nature to press wines with much love and passion.
