White grape variety

Encruzado is a grape variety found exclusively in the Dão region, in central northern Portugal. Although the vineyard area there is barely more than 300 hectares, it is still one of the best white wine varieties in Portugal. And even a variety whose wines, produced to a high quality, even have good ripening and aging potential. The Encruzado, which develops small clusters with medium-sized berries, produces good and reliable yields and is fairly resistant to most typical vine diseases. In the cellar, however, it requires great attention because it tends to oxidize quickly, which can largely destroy the aroma. If treated correctly, the Encruzado is also ideal for expanding into new wood, which gives it additional structure. With the Encruzado, Portugal definitely has a grape variety with good potential for the future.
