Recently, the Bohemian spa town of Marienbad has been allowed to call itself part of the "Great Spas of Europe". With this title, UNESCO honored the city in the Czech Republic as a World Heritage Site for its wellness tradition.
Recently, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) awarded prizes to spas that can look back on a particularly long history and can therefore confidently call themselves the "Great Spas of Europe". Marienbad, located in the West Bohemian spa triangle, can now proudly bear this title. Wellness is now officially recognized as a World Heritage Site. The influence on modern European cities, the testimony of a cultural tradition, a unique urban typology and the paving of the way for a transnational culture were UNESCO's criteria for inclusion on the list.
The spa town has a total of 40 springs. These helped the town to make a name for itself beyond the country's borders during the 19th century. One of these springs, the Alexandra Spring, is used exclusively by the Falkensteiner Spa Resort Marienbad. Its water has a very high CO2 and sodium content. This makes it ideal for drinking cures and mineral baths in the Acquapura SPA and the adjoining Medical Center. Under the motto "Heal.Restore.Relax", the five-star resort offers individually tailored treatments that provide a holistic wellness experience.
Naturally, the 5-star Falkensteiner Spa Resort Marienbad is also delighted about the "Wellness as a World Heritage Site" award and the city's inclusion on the list: "Bohemian spa culture has a long tradition in our hotel. We are all the more delighted that UNESCO has honored this cultural heritage," explains Reinhard Wall, General Manager of the Falkensteiner Spa Resort Marienbad. In addition to the Czech city, Spa in Belgium, Vichy in France, Bath in Great Britain and Bad Kissingen, Bad Ems and Baden in Germany were also honored.
