"Nikkei" generally stands for Japanese cuisine with a Latin American twist. Because the former defines a style of cooking that is not practised here, but a connection to the stock exchange building was required, landlady Elisabeth "Sissi" Wu chose "Nikkai". Which Google immediately corrects to the first word. No matter. The patron is known from her smaller restaurants "IKO" and "Little Koya". Here, she has opened an airy, large-format panasiata with large golden illuminated leaves as an eye-catcher. From starters to grilled dishes, the menu offers a mix that should appeal to a wide audience in this less busy area of the Ring. Which apparently works, as the place is packed. Those who prefer Asian flavors with freshness and lightness should stick to the "Let's start here" section. "Nasu Dengaku" are braised melanzani on soba noodles with sesame and Thai basil. Very good, as is beef carpaccio, the meat can be found under the large slices of red heart daikon, served with shimeji mushrooms and yuzu marinade. The deep-fried "Crispy & Crunchy Roll" with salmon, kanpyo pumpkin and cucumber should only be ordered if you have a strong appetite, as it is a huge dish that tends to be dry at the core. The main courses are also programmed for satiety. Succulent short ribs come on a huge sea of saffron risotto. The wine list has surprises in store,
19 wines by the glass, eight champagnes, all sorts from the Rhone, great wines from the Nahe. Cocktails and breakfast are also available. Here, everyone can feel like a temporary "stockbroker".
