The St. Andrea winery is located in the Eger wine region. The aim is to produce wines that reflect the unique character of this wine region, as is the case with Egri Bikavér and Egri Csillag. The production of high-quality grapes, the professional handling of local grape varieties and innovations based on tradition are essential for the winery team. The aim is to produce exciting wines that reflect the characteristics of the wine region and have a profile that is typical of the region. This requires resistant plants full of vitality and optimal care depending on the grape variety. Particular attention is paid to the enhancement of the soil. Unnecessary or excessive use of pesticides is avoided and environmentally friendly alternatives are preferred.
Eger is one of the most exciting wine regions in Hungary. "We are grateful that we have the opportunity to grow grapes right here. Producing red and white wines in the same area is a particularly challenging task," explains Barna Boros. Cellar master Dr. György Lőrincz jun. adds: "We want to create terroir-specific character wines that build on tradition and at the same time meet the requirements of today's quality winemaking." The focus is on old local varieties such as Olaszrizling, Hárslevelű, Furmint, Kadarka and Kékfrankos. They strive to get to know their different terroirs and parcels better, thereby improving cultivation and also adapting the steps of their winemaking to the different varieties, putting all their heart and soul into it.
The company currently cultivates nine vineyards in different locations. The average number of vines is between 5,000 and 10,000 vines per hectare. Cuvées are traditionally produced in the wine-growing region and this tradition is also continued here.
"The quality of the wine is determined in the vineyard. By blending existing viticultural and winemaking knowledge with classic methods, we want to show the world special wines. This is what drives and inspires us. We want to prove that we too are capable of real creations, of unforgettable wines that give great pleasure. And when someone achieves this level of quality, which they can maintain unwaveringly and consistently over decades, they rightly become a respected winery and their product a wine icon that can serve as an inspiration to other enthusiastic winemakers," Dr. György Lőrincz Sr. is convinced, having already received numerous awards.
