The sweet and dessert wine Bernkastel Doctor Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese, vintage 1921 from the winery Weingut Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch – Erben Müller-Burggraef has been rated in 2020 by Ulrich Sautter with 99 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Riesling from the region Moselle in Germany.
Sold at the 1985 VDP auction for DM 11,200, tasting note from 2010: dried pear, raisin, walnut and a delicate, slightly oxidative patina. On the palate it shows with a round, soft flow, ripe sweetness and seamlessly integrated acidity. Still remarkably vital, a fascinating combination of maturity and tension.
More about the tastingA dark, somewhat dull brown, the colour is deceptive with regard to the actual state of the wine, which has not changed at all since a first tasting 20 years ago and will certainly remain so well into the next century. One of the most concentrated noses I have ever found in a TBA: nuances of chocolate, roasted vegetables and herbs on a base of brown butter. Thick and oily on the palate, with a sweetness like strong beer and herbal savouriness. Fully lives up to its name. (MS).
