The white wine variety Feteasc? Alb? comes from Moldova and is still one of the country's traditional varieties today. The name means something like “white young girl”. From Moldova the variety spread to Romania and later also to Hungary. The variety has very close relationships with the red wine variety Feteasc, which also originally comes from Moldova. Neagr?.The grape variety, which is insensitive to spring frosts, is very susceptible to both types of powdery mildew, to rot diseases as well as to mite infestation, although the berries in the small, compact clusters have a thick skin. After early budding, it matures in a medium-long segment. The grape variety is well represented in the middle and south of Moldova with around 4,500 hectares of vineyards. Feteasc is often used? Alb? the production of sparkling wines. The area under vines for this variety in Romania is more than twice as large as in the country of origin, concentrated in Transylvania and Moldova. Pure still wines, cuvées of various varieties and sparkling wines are produced here, in dry and semi-dry styles, blended with the Cotnari variety, it also stands for the sweet wine of the same name. In Ukraine is the Feteasc? Alb? after all, represented with around 1,600 hectares. In the wine-growing regions of the new federal states of Germany, the grape variety is known as "Girl's Grape". Under the name Leányka, the grape variety is a not insignificant grape variety, especially in Hungary, but was previously much more widespread. Today there are only fewer than 1,000 hectares in production, but stocks continue to decline.
