Sister business to the wine bar Pompette just next door, at this tiny shop it’s all about fried chicken, mostly between two buns with mayonnaise, cheese, lettuce, and pickles. If that’s not enough chicken for you already, there are also chicken nuggets to order as sides. If chicken is not your thing, however, fear not! GAO is a family of casual neighbourhood dumpling bars spread across Copenhagen, where you can enjoy homemade dumplings (though from a central kitchen) quickly, easily, and deliciously since the first location opened back in 2016. The menu is short but sweet, and offers a good portion of dumplings for an excellent price! Located inside the food market Torvehallerne, you will find Ma Poule. A shop where you can find both French produce and ingredients, as well as indulge in a few food options to keep you from going wild when exploring their deli section on an empty stomach. One of them, in particular, is their simple but mouthwatering duck confit sandwich served with mustard and rocket in a light and crispy baguette that will make you salivate the second they start making it in front of you. Luckily, good things come to those who wait, and this is no exception.
Sometimes you walk past an inconspicuous place, but it immediately hits you right in the gastronomic heart ... hard. The Isted Grill on Istedgade is one of these places. The Flæskesteg sandwich, as simple as it may look, is addictive! The crispy pork, together with red cabbage and cucumber salad in a classic, simple sesame seed bun, harmonises perfectly and is a real bargain for the modest price of less than 50 DKK - the equivalent of 6.70 euros. In short, Isted Grill is a perfect, unpretentious place to end the evening with a snack after other gastronomic adventures in the city.
