"Warm Dishes" Wine Bars in Lower Austria
Anyone on holiday in Retz is of course always well advised to visit the nearby wineries. However, going to the wine shop on the main square works just as well for a taste of the region. 50 listed winemakers with 300 wines are the best argument for this.
Bright, modern and well-stocked - this is how the regional wine shop on the old market square in Kirchberg/Wagram is seeing in its 15th year. Where some of these wines come from can be seen behind the wine shop - the characteristic loess wall are visible there. The gastronomic delights are also rewarding!
You almost feel as if you are in the vineyards as you sit on the romantic terrace. The wines from the menu, which includes many from Wachau, are also close enough to touch. If it rains, the "Smaragd" wine bar is a good option.
Lukas Humer and Rafael Reisser want to "give the wine a stage". Word has gotten around that it is the regional dishes ("Weinhaus-Kleinigkeiten") that score points alongside the "best of" the Wagram winegrowers. Remarkable selection of aged white wine!
A dream realised at home. With a bar, small kitchen and vinotheque, Helena Jordan brings her favourite wines to the Mostviertel. Natural, orange, classic - the important things are sincerity and lack of dogma. She brings her experience from Tian, Maaemo and Juan Amador in her luggage.
"Kremstal vs. Kamptal" is just one example of the formats that arise in this meeting point for fine wines from five white wine regions. Of course, the extensive menu is also stocked with wines from abroad, but when it comes to this specialism, the Platzhirsch is second to none.
The pubs where you can get classics like minced roast with mashed potatoes for ten euros still exist. The clientele is a colourful mix, as it should be. Directors, professors and workers all enjoy the ambience, the humour and Wolfgang Friedrich's wine selection.
When the Kalmuck says "clear the stage", you can look forward to an energetic evening of live music. A look at the cocktail and wine list is also a pleasure. The selection of drinks is excellent and the ambience in the guest garden is very fine.
You could almost feel a fresh sea breeze as you enter, the Mediterranean-inspired dishes are so delicious. The vacation feeling continues in the wine list. Simply order a bottle, drink a glass and flick the switch to holiday mode.
It's time for an "X", i.e. a kiss, or an "X" as in Drinx and Snax in Martin Mann and Markus Hanslik's pub. The two restaurateurs always have a light-hearted saying in store, plenty of good wines in the cellar and tasty beer on tap. The guests are delighted.
If you stop for a plate of spaghetti or a coffee with a view of the Kornplatz during the day, you will miss the metamorphosis of the restaurant. This is because wine connoisseurs practically always end up here after their tour of the Ursin House - and are amazed at the selection of Kamptal wines.
Italian lifestyle combined with a beautiful setting and the gastronomic art of Erich Stierschneider (formerly Landhaus Bacher and Corso) result in a wonderful osteria with a good wine list. These include strong Veltliners and Rieslings as well as fine Italian wines.
It doesn't get much cosier than this. Right in the heart of the state capital, you can indulge in indulgence, eat small bites until midnight and enjoy a glass of wine in comfort - or a long drink later. If you want to take a bottle of wine home with you, there are cellar door prices.
