Canada removes all travel restrictions

Travellers will no longer have to show tests or proof of vaccination.

Canada is to remove all COVID-19 entry restrictions, as well as current testing, quarantine, and isolation requirements for anyone entering the country. This will be effective October 1, 2022, according to a press release issued by the Canadian government.

The government said that several factors have facilitated the removal of border measures. This includes modelling that indicates the country has largely passed the peak of the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 waves. Furthermore, Canada’s high vaccination rates, lower hospitalisation and death rates, and the availability and use of vaccine boosters, are further reasons to remove travel restrictions.

Effective October 1, all travellers, regardless of citizenship, will no longer have to:

  • submit public health information through the ArriveCAN app or website
  • provide proof of vaccination
  • undergo pre- or on-arrival testing
  • carry out COVID-19-related quarantine or isolation
  • monitor and report if they develop signs or symptoms of COVID-19 upon arriving

Travellers will no longer be required to undergo health checks for air  rail travel, or to wear masks on planes and trains.
