First Broadway Museum Expected to Open Next Year

The first museum dedicated to the history of Broadway is expected to open in New York's Times Square in 2022.

Game-changing museum

The first museum focused on the history of Broadway shows will open in New York next summer after repeated delays. The Museum of Broadway is described as "an interactive and immersive experience that celebrates Broadway -- the history, the behind-the-scenes, the game changers". The museum will be in the heart of Times Square, at 145 West 45th Street. It is the brain-child of four-time Tony-nominated producer Julie Boardman and Diane Nicoletti, founder of Rubik Marketing.

Backstage at Broadway

The museum will feature a timeline of Broadway from its birth to the present day, a map room with immersive video projections tracing the history and migration of New York's theatres, installations devoted to some of the most influential shows and a backstage area that breaks down the making of a show. “We really thought it would be this great idea that was a hybrid of both an experiential museum that’s very interactive and colorful and fun,” Nicoletti told The New York Times, “As well as making sure that we were really getting the integrity of the history of Broadway, by including costumes and artefacts and historic elements as well.”
