Renowned chef David Kinch to leave Michelin three-star restaurant

Award-winning US chef David Kinch, credited with being at the forefront of contemporary California cuisine, will leave his starred Manresa restaurant at the end of 2022.

Kinch said in an Instagram post that Manresa restaurant in Los Gatos, California had essentially been his "whole life for the past 20 years".

The Philadelphia-born chef worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in France, Germany, and Spain before moving to the area in 2002 and buying the property that would become Manresa, which offers a seasonal Chef's Tasting Menu at $365 per guest.

It holds three Michelin stars and is described as one of the "Bay Area’s most well-regarded restaurants" by the Guide.

A new chapter

"Starting January 1, I’m looking forward to helping usher in the next exciting new chapter of fine dining at Manresa, to dedicating my time and efforts to The Bywater, Mentone and Manresa Bread and having the time and freedom to explore some exciting new pursuits, and revisit long-neglected passions," Kinch wrote in his post. US media reported that he plans to sell the business.

Kinch hasn't rested on his laurels since opening Manresa. In 2013, he released a cookbook Manresa: An Edible Reflection, in 2015 he expanded the brand to include a neighborhood bakery called Manresa Bread and in 2016 opened New Orleans themed bar and restaurant The Bywater and won an Emmy for Outstanding Culinary Host in the PBS series The Mind of a Chef
