New Vegan Eatery Unfckd Opens in Berlin
A new vegan fast food restaurant with a radical name wants to woo customers by providing unadulterated enjoyment.
A provocative new vegan fast food chain has opened in Berlin. The first unfckd restaurant, complete with its own app, has opened its doors in the German capital. It aims to completely redefine meatless enjoyment with a visually appealing menu. The target group is not only vegans, but flexitarians. It is the brain child of TV presenter Johannes Kerner, Laura Schilling and gastronomic specialist Mark Korzilius.
At the unfckd restaurant at Alexanderplatz, food enthusiasts can look forward to a carefully styled culinary experience in a 400 sqm space, with 60 seats indoors and a spacious terrace decorated in street art style. Fast food creations such as truffle-parmesan fries, juicy burgers, shawarma and prawn pizza will be on the menu in a bid to prove that vegan cuisine and alternative protein sources are a lot tastier than many believe.
What's behind the name
According to its German creators, the word unfckd has long been a synonym for "unadulterated" and "unspent". A fitting name, then, for a place that simply wants to revolutionise vegan cuisine. "We're not about doing without, but we serve vegan alternatives that easily surpass the original," says founder Laura Schilling, who wants to be part of sustainable change.
That involves organic ingredients, plastic-free packaging, digital payment via app and fair salaries for all employees. The restaurant also has its own shop where you can buy sauces and spices. In the future, the founders hope to open more individually designed unfckd restaurants in trendy metropolitan areas that will attract creatives and artists.
