Guide Michelin Switzerland: five new two-star restaurants

On October 2 the new Michelin stars for Switzerland were awarded - including two restaurants that were awarded two stars at the first attempt: "Mammertsberg" by Silvio Germann and "The Japanese" by Dominik Sato and Fabio Toffolon.

On October 2 the Michelin Guide Switzerland announced its new restaurant selection. The ceremony was held for the second time at EHL Hospitality Business School, considered one of the most prestigious hospitality schools in the world.

Once again, Switzerland's top gastronomy shows its adaptability in economically difficult times. The number of restaurants awarded stars in the Guide Michelin remains at a consistently high level; a total of 138 restaurants in Switzerland will be awarded one, two or three stars this year, including many interesting new openings.
Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide.

In addition to five new two-star restaurants, a total of 19 restaurants were awarded their first star. These include the new restaurant "Zoe" by Fabian Raffeiner, Zurich's "Wöschi" by David Klocksin, the new restaurant " Collonade " at the "Mandarin Oriental Palace, Lucerne", Stefan Wiesner's new "Wiesner Mysterion " and the fine dining restaurant "Elmira" in Zurich. Likewise, the "Gasthaus zum Kreuz" of chef Dietmar Sawyere, which houses two restaurants at once, was newly honoured with a star.

Five new two-star restaurants

Silvio Germann 's new gourmet restaurant "Mammertsberg" in Freidorf was awarded two stars at the first attempt only one year after opening. And "The Japanese Restaurant" also received two stars under the new dual leadership of twin brothers Dominik Sato and Fabio Toffolon and their mix of Japanese and European influences.

The second star of the restaurant "L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon" in Geneva was received by the visibly moved chef Olivier Jean and also the restaurant "La Table de Valrose" in Rougemont by Bennoit Carcenat and the "La Table du Lausanne Palace" by Franck Pelux are among the new two-star restaurants.

The restaurants that have already been awarded three stars will retain them in the new Michelin Guide 2023: among them Sven Wassmer of the restaurant "Memories", Andreas Caminada of "Schloss Schauenstein", Peter Knogl of "Le Cheval Blanc" and Franck Giovannini of "Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville" in Crissier.

Special Awards

In addition to the new stars, various special awards were also presented to selected restaurateurs. This year, for example, two chefs were honoured with the "Young Chef Award": the twins Dominik Sato and Fabio Toffolon, who took over a restaurant together for the first time in February with "The Japanese Restaurant," received this special award in addition to the new two stars. The "Sommelier Award" went to Antoine Sicard of the "Wenger" restaurant in Le Noirmont and Sandra Marugg Suter, hostess of the "Restaurant Schlüssel" in Oberwil, was honoured with the Service Award.

New "Green Stars"

In addition to the presentation of the new stars, the "Green Stars" in Switzerland were awarded again this year; for restaurants that have a special focus on sustainability. In total, nine new businesses were recognised for exemplary initiatives and a sustainable vision. Among them Stefan Wiesner with his "Wiesners Mysterion" or star chef Dominik Hartmann with his "Magdalena".
