Travel Essentials

List of dates when charges waived for some of the most famous locations in the US.

Travellers to the US will get the chance to visit the country’s renowned national parks free of charge on certain dates in 2023, the open days coinciding with national holidays and anniversary dates.

World-famous locations such as the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park in California and the Everglades National Park in Florida waive entrance frees to mark milestone events – the first date is January 16, Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

On the fee-free days there are no entrance fees but certain tour charges or transportation costs may still apply. The free days are:

January 16 – Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday

April 22 – First Day of National Park Week

August 4 – Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act

September 23 – National Public Lands Day

November 11 – Veterans Day

The National Parks Service offers visitors to the US the chance to purchase an annual pass costing $80, giving holders unlimited entrance to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, including all national parks, every day of the year.

Tipp: You can find a full list of the parks participating in the fee-free days here.
