The best wines from Böhmen

The wine growing region of Bohemia includes the Central Bohemian Mountains along the Labe River with its tributaries Vltava and Berounka, around Litoměřice and Mělník. Before the Thirty Years' War, after Prague, Leitmerice was the largest wine growing community in Bohemia. The consequences of the war and phylloxera led to a widespread decline. In the 20th century, Central Bohemian viticulture was reactivated, which today accounts for five percent of the total vineyard area in the Czech Republic. The grape variety list here shows Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc (Czech: Rulandské bílé) and Gewürztraminer (Czech: Tramín červený) as well as Grüner Veltliner (Czech: Veltínské zelené), as well as Pinot Gris, Riesling and, to a lesser extent, red grape varieties (Blauer Portugieser).
