Bodegas Hnos. Pérez Pascuas

Falstaff Online Österreich 2023

Even though Bodegas Pérez Pascuas, as it is known and appreciated today, was only founded in 1980 by the three Pérez Pascuas brothers, the family's roots in viticulture in the Ribera del Duero region go back much further. Their father Mauro had already dedicated his life to viticulture and the vines. But the three brothers wanted more; their declared aim was to be among the best in the region. They founded the winery near the village of Pedrosa, which gave its wines their name, Vina Pedrosa - today a permanent fixture in the wine-growing landscape of the Ribera del Duero. Today, the Pérez Pascuas family cultivates around 120 hectares, but due to the rigorous yield controls, this is only enough for around 600,000 bottles. The parcels are planted with 90% Tinta El Pais, the local variety of Tempranillo, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The soils in this corner of the Ribera del Duero are shallow and receive very little rainfall. During the ripening of the grapes, the temperature fluctuations between day and night are extreme. However, this gives the wines finesse, great elegance and an animating acidity structure alongside a dense and complex aromatic texture. The wines are matured in French and American oak barrels. From the vine to the bottle, meticulous care is taken to ensure that all artisanal steps are carried out in harmony and with respect for nature. Wines are produced in the entry-level range as well as absolute top-class growths, which are considered by connoisseurs to be among the best in the country. The flagship is the "Gran Seleccion" Gran Reserva, whose grapes come from a small, over 90-year-old plot. This essence spends 5 years in the winery, including around 26 months in new barriques, before it is allowed to delight the palates of connoisseurs. Critics consider this wine to be one of the best in Spain.
